The metal is shaped to fit the stone and the contours of a nose piercing, so it appears flat against the skin - unlike the bezel and claw set studs, which either reshape your nose by forcing the skin flat or stick out and catch on clothing.

CHOOSING YOUR TAIL SHAPE

THE "U" SHAPED TAIL

This shape of tail is favored by many piercers as it is very unlikely to fall out however it does have its own drawbacks and is not recommended unless you have worn this tail shape before and are 100% happy with it.

The "U" shaped tail is a stay put fitting which is suitable for most piercings that have a 1cm (USA 3/8”) clearance from the nasal cavity. i.e. not too low on the nose or it may hang out. Also if you nasal cavities can be seen clearly when looking straight into a mirror (i.e. the nose peak is high) - play safe and stick to the one of the other shapes. - The right/left selection brings the tail in and upwards into the nasal cavity.

The 18 gauge "U" is suitable for an initial needle piercing by a professional body piercer at their own discretion.

The "Half-U" SHAPED TAIL

The "Half-U" shaped tail is a secure nose stud which is suitable for nose piercings that have a 8mm (USA 5/16”) clearance from the nasal cavity. i.e. Similar to the U it should not be too low on the nose or it may hang out however some people who wear this simply flip it up and are quite happy to do this. Also again you will have to be careful if you nasal cavities can be seen clearly when looking straight into a mirror (i.e. the nose peak is high) The right/left selection brings the tail in and upwards into the nasal cavity.

The 18 gauge "Half-U" is suitable for an initial needle piercing by a professional body piercer at their own discretion.

"L" SHAPED TAIL

The "L" shaped stud is easy fit - This is the more usual stud suitable for most nose piercings and is by far the most popular style of tail and is used for most nose studs throughout the world. Most people find this the easiest to put in and remove.

The 18 gauge "L" is suitable for an initial piercing by a professional body piercer.

"PIN" TAIL

The "Pin". Suitable for most noses - it just pops through your pierce via a small fixed ball which is a little larger than the shaft. This type in shaft is getting more popular especially if you like to frequently change your jewellery – Please be aware that each and everyone is different and some people with hard or non-elastic skin find these difficult to push through the piercing as the ball is slightly thicker than the hole.

The "Pin" is NOT suitable for an initial piercing.
