Industrial or Scaffold Piercing

Description and Location:
Two separate ear rim piercings are designed to fit a single long barbell. Initially they are treated as two separate piercings and when healed, the longer scaffold barbell is then fitted. This area can be multiple pierced to great effect, with two or more bars fitted parallel with each other. They can also be designed to sit diagonally forming a cross, as well as being placed vertically from the pinna at the top to the lobe at the bottom. This is a variation on weaving and should only be carried out using a needle.

Procedure:
A technical piercing when the alignment of the two piercings is crucial, requiring careful planning and preparation. Miscalculation can result in a finished piercing that distorts the natural shape of the ear.

Swelling:
This piercing creates four, rather than two holes. If one piece of jewellery were fitted through all four holes, the swelling might be too great and, for this reason, it is treated as two piercings.

Types of Suitable Jewellery:
Whilst the two piercings are being treated separately, BCRs or short barbells are fitted. When the piercing has healed, at least four months later, a full barbell can be fitted. Typically the barbell ranges between 26-40mm in length with a minimum gauge of 1.6mm.
