Star Sapphire
Faith hope and destiny
The
mystical phenomenon, which makes the Star Sapphire so
alluring, is the star, which floats across the top of
the stone. With movements the star just follows you
around. If you have never seen one of these rare stones,
prepare to be fascinated at their beauty. Fine, needle-like
inclusions are what give sapphires their velvety quality.
The Singhalese believed the star sapphire would protect
them against witchcraft. The three intersecting rays
were thought to represent faith, hope and destiny.

A diamond is forever
The word diamond comes from the Greek term adamas, meaning
"unconquerable." Romans believed that diamonds
had the power to ward off evil and wore them as talismans.
Diamonds were not used as gems in European jewellery
until the late 13th century, but a French law of the
time decreed that only the king could wear them. In
the symbolism of gemstones, the diamond represents steadfast
love and is the birthstone for April.
Some interesting facts about diamonds
Hardness: Diamond is a perfect "10", defining
the top of the hardness scale. Diamond is 4 times harder
than the next hardest natural mineral, corundum (sapphire
and ruby).
Thermal Conductivity:
Diamond conducts heat better than anything else - five
times better than the second best element, Silver.
Diamond has the highest melting point (3820 degrees
Kelvin)
Density:
The atoms of Diamond are packed closer together than
the atoms of any other substance.
The Ideal Cut allows the maximum amount of light to
enter and reflect producing the sparkle that you see.
Brilliant cut or round diamonds as they are known consist
of 58 facets and are capable of reflecting the most
light; therefore they are the most brilliant of all
the diamond shapes.
A very high refractive power, together with reflection,
and dispersion, gives the diamond its extraordinary
brilliance. Of all gems the diamond has the highest
index of refraction: 2.419.
Diamonds come in a spectrum of colours from colourless
to black; they may be transparent, translucent or opaque.
Gem diamonds are primarily transparent and colourless,
or nearly so. But most diamonds are tinged with colour,
which, if sufficiently intense, is prized as a gem and
called a fancy. Blue and pink diamonds are the most
valuable. Red diamonds are very rare. Clear white diamonds
are called diamonds of the first water.
